Blue Collar

It's a bit complicated to define Tali Kushnir. Tali studied set and costume design, she collects everything related to local fashion and textiles from the age of 12, for seven years Tali owned, managed and worked in a vintage shop, that today we can already consider mythological, called "The Underground" and a few months after she finished working, for two years, as the right hand of fashion designer Dorin Frankfurt, she came out with her first independent collection - Blue-Collar, based entirely on work clothes from archives around the world. That's it for now.

Yesterday I visited her and saw the beautiful collection and archives. Tali and her partner live in a spacious Tel Aviv apartment in the old north. Classy. One room with a huge wall cabinet that occupies the length of an entire wall is dedicated to archiving. The entrance is forbidden for both domestic cats and blinds in the room always shuttered. Tali's collections include Gottex textiles ,some with the handwriting of the late Mrs. Gottlieb, original Maskit dresses, Yemeni tissue with gold and silver thread, a Palestinian coat that Yael Dayan has received from Yasser Arafat , dresses of  mythological Israeli fashion designers Roszi Ben Yosef, Fini  Leitersdorf and Lola Ber, and much more. All the work of collecting, identifying and preserving is done by Tali alone, out of love and respect for the history of Israeli fashion.

קצת מסובך להגדיר את טלי קושניר. טלי למדה עיצוב תפאורה ותלבושות, היא אוספת כל מה שקשור לאופנה וטקסטיל מקומיים מגיל 12, במשך שבע שנים היתה הבעלים, ניהלה ועבדה בחנות בגדי וינטאג' שהיום כבר אפשר לקרוא לה מיתולוגית בשם "המחתרת" ולפני כמה חודשים,אחרי שבמשך שנתיים היתה יד ימינה של מעצבת האופנה דורין פרנקפורט, יצאה עם הקולקציה העצמאית הראשונה שלה - צווארון כחול, המבוססת כולה על ארכיונים של בגדי עבודה מרחבי העולם. זהו נכון לעכשיו.                                   י

 אתמול ביקרתי אצלה וראיתי את הקולקציה היפה ואת הארכיון. טלי ובן זוגה גרים בדירה תל אביבית רחבת ידיים בצפון הישן. קלאסה. חדר אחד עם ארון קיר ענק התופס את אורכו של קיר שלם, מוקדש לארכיון. הכניסה לשני חתולי הבית אסורה והתריס בחדר תמיד מוגף. האוספים של טלי כוללים טקסטילים של גוטקס, בין היתר עם כתב ידה של גברת גוטליב המנוחה, בגדי משכית מקוריים, רקמות תימניות עם חוטי זהב וכסף, מעיל פלסטיני שיעל דיין קיבלה מיאסר ערפת, שמלות של מעצבות אופנה מיתולוגיות כמו רוז'י בן יוסף , פיני לייטרסדורף ולולה בר. משוגעת לדבר, אין ספק. את כל עבודת האיסוף, איתור ושימור עושה טלי לבד ועל חשבונה מתוך אהבה וכבוד להיסטוריה של האופנה הישראלית.                                 י

הקולקציה "צווארון כחול" כוללת שמונה דגמים מתוכם ארבעה דגמים לגברים, שהם גם יוניסקס למי שאוהבת, והיתר לנשים. ז'קט מדוייק, שמלה קצרה, שמלה רחבת שוליים ועתירת בד, מכנסיים עם מותן גבוהה, חולצות כותנה.  שלושה דגמים חדשים "מתבשלים".                    י
טלי מספרת על התהליך: קודם כל החלטתי על הקונספט, מצאתי דימויים, והעמקתי בהיסטוריה של תחום בגדי העבודה בעולם ואצלנו. לאט לאט התחלתי לצייר דגמים ואחרי שנתיים הייתי מוכנה .שיתפתי את דורין (פרנקפורט) בכל התהליך, הראיתי לה בדים והשראות. ואז כשהייתי מוכנה היא עודדה אותי לצאת לעצמאות ויצאתי לעבוד על הקולקציה. עבדתי על זה עוד שנה והשקתי את הקולקציה במאי (2015). הפידבקים של המכירות טובים מאוד, אפילו מפתיעים.לא היה לי מושג איך הקולקציה תתקבל. כי הבגדים כאילו במרכאות כפולות מאוד מיושנים, הבדים כאילו מאוד פשוטים והצ'אנס שזה יצליח היה פיפטי פיפטי. ואני נורא שמחה שיש כבר דברים שנגמרו ועשיתי עליהם ריפיט. אני מוכרת לאנשים מכל הסוגים -  מחברה צעירים ועד לנשים בוגרות ממלצרים ועד לאנשי עסקים. ממש מכל הסוגים וכל הגילאים.                          י
העסק ממוקם בבית ומגיעים אלי בתיאום טלפוני. וזה ממש ממש כיף. נדל"ן זה דבר מאוד יקר, הרבה אנשים היום עובדים מהבית. יש לזה הרבה יתרונות וגם הרבה חסרונות. סה"כ אני בנאדם של בית אז אני מאוד נהנת מזה. גם מבחינה כלכלית - זה מאפשר לי להשקיע בבגדים ולא במה שמסביב וגם אני יכולה לתמחר אותם יותר בזול. הם לא זולים אבל הם היו צריכים להיות הרבה יותר יקרים.                                          י

The Blue Collar collection includes eight outfits so far. A jacket, a short dress, a wide rim dress with high-margin, high-waist trousers, cotton shirts. Three new models "are being cooked".
Tali talks about the process: "First of all, I decided on the concept, found images, and got deeper in the history and the present of the field of work clothes. Slowly I began to draw models and two years later was ready .I involved Dorin (Frankfurt) in the whole process, I showed her fabrics and inductance. And then when I was ready she encouraged me to go out for independence and I went to work on the collection. I worked on it for another year and I launched the collection in May (2015). The sales are very good, even surprising. I had no idea how the collection will be received. The clothes are kind of very old-fashioned in quotation marks, and the fabric is kind of very simple and chance it would work was a fifty fifty. And I'm very happy to have already run out of things and having to repeat them. I sell to people from all kinds - from young to mature women from waiters to businessmen. Really all types and ages.
 The business is located in my home and people come to me through phone. And it's really, really fun. Real estate is a very expensive thing, many people now working from home. It has many advantages and many disadvantages. I am a homey person so I really enjoy it. Both financially - it allows me to spend on the clothes themselves rather than what's around and I can price them more cheaply. They are not cheap but they would have had to be much more expensive if i had a studio and workers.

This way I work alone, at my own pace, I do not work according to the season and I produce new models all the time. Working from home allows me to be very accurate.

M: What's the idea behind the collection?
T: The whole collection is based on patterns of work wear from different periods/times. Some from my archive and some collected. I also worked a lot with art, with the current of social realism. Working-class people were photographed, and the images can teach you about patterns and body positioning. And socialist realism too. For us, in Israel it was the agricultural pioneers.
M: But why did you choose work clothes?
T: I think that they are very precise. There is no unnecessary ornamentation. The goal of the work wear is always to download everything that is not essential in the clothing and stick with the bare minimum that is both aesthetically pleasing and effective. This is exactly the opposite of what's fashionable in Israel today. There is a tendency to excess ornamentation. I guess this is a reaction to the founders advocated modesty.
It's very interesting to me as someone who came from the history of fashion and costumes. This universal theme of the twentieth century that symbolizes the difference between people in the world as well as the similarities. In addition - these are very, very nice clothes and comfortable fit .

מ: מה הרעיון מאחרי הקולקציה ?                                       י
ט: כל הקולקציה מבוססת על גזרות של בגדי עבודה מכל הזמנים. חלקם מהארכיון שלי וחלקם אספתי. עבדתי גם הרבה עם אמנות, עם הזרם של הריאליזם הסוציאלי. צילמו אנשים ממעמד הפועלים ומהתמונות יכולתי ללמוד על גזרות ומנח על הגוף. וגם הסוציאליזם הריאליסטי, אצלנו זה היה החלוצים.                                     י
מ: אבל למה בחרת דווקא בבגדי עבודה ?                              י
ט: אני חושבת שיש בהם משהו מאוד מאוד מדוייק. אין בהם קישוטיות מיותרת. המטרה של בגדי עבודה היא תמיד להוריד את כל מה שלא הכרחי לבגד ולהשאר עם המינימום ההכרחי שהוא גם אסתטי וגם יעיל. זה בדיוק ההפך ממה שבאופנה בישראל היום. יש נטיה לעודף קישוטיות. אני מניחה שזו ריאקציה לדור המייסדים שדגל בצניעות.                                   י

זה נורא מעניין בעיני כמי שהגיעה מההיסטוריה של האופנה. בגדי עבודה זה נושא אוניברסלי במאה העשרים שמסמל גם את השונה בין האנשים בעולם וגם את הדומה. בנוסף - אלה בגדים מאוד מאוד יפים ונוחים ומתאימים לכל שעות היום ולכל הפעולות השונות.                              י

מ: ומצד שני יש לך את הארכיון שהוא לגמרי לא פרקטי
ט: לגמרי. המטרה של ארכיון היא לתת בסיס למחקר. אנשים מתקשרים אלי ובאים לראות. המטרה לחלוטין לא פרקטית. כשהיתה לי חנות זה היה עוד יותר קל אבל גם עכשיו באים.                                        י
