Working with fashion designer Gideon Oberson

Gideon Oberson was the first fashion designer I have ever worked with.

 It was very surprising because I was shooting only friends,at the time, or very extraordinary models I've "found" in the street.

 Anyway, somehow I got to this event, all dressed in orange and red (I had a whole period in mid / late Eighties when I used to dress very colorfully. And no, I do not have pictures) and we were introduced. The next day I got a call from his studio, asking me to shoot his collection.
 I do not think he remembers it, but for me it was a seminal moment. I got a free hand and indeed I chose to photograph a girl with an androgynous look, who I've been photographing a lot at the time. And I got paid! :)
  Since then our paths crossed several times, including photographing Oberson's excellent swimsuits.
 When I was approached for the 15/16 collection, I thought what's best for now. How should it look now.
 It was clear to me that the clothes will be perfect, but where to shoot and what kind of lighting to use? 

So I offered to do the photo shoot in Oberson's house,which I was sure would be beautiful, and in addition shooting there I made sure that Gideon himself would be on the set, which he doesn't like doing. And his final touch is important.

 
We set the scene on a wall painted bright red and also used the big art objects scattered in the large apartment.
I used the beautiful daylight lighting of the space  and added a very weak direct flash, for sharpening a bit.

Using day light is made possible because of the high sensitivity of modern cameras.I love to use these qualities because they provide the photo with depth.
Miriam Roth, the amazonian model we chose reminded me a lot of the qualities of the classic models of Helmut Newton, so that my  directing request was always - look at me with a strong look.

And she did.

Final Touch

 

גדעון אוברזון היה מעצב האופנה הראשון שפנה אלי לצילומים כשהתחלתי לצלם.
 זה היה מאוד מפתיע כי צילמתי אז רק חברים, היו לי דוגמניות יוצאות דופן ש"מצאתי" ברחוב ובכלל עשיתי רק מה שרציתי.
 בכל אופן הגעתי איכשהו לאיזה אירוע, לבושה בטייץ כתום וחולצה אדומה (הייתה לי תקופה שלמה באמצע/סוף האייטיז שהתלבשתי במלא צבעים ותכשיטים צבעוניים. ולא ,אין לי תמונות ) והכירו בינינו.
 למחרת קיבלתי טלפון מהסטודיו שלו שגדעון מבקש שאצלם לו את הקולקציה.
 אני לא חושבת שהוא זוכר את זה, אבל עבורי זה היה רגע מכונן. קיבלתי יד חופשית ואכן בחרתי לצלם על בחורה עם מראה אנדרוגיני, שצילמתי הרבה באותה תקופה.
 וגם שילמו לי! :)
  מאז דרכינו הצטלבו כמה פעמים, גם בצילומים לבוטיק וגם לקטלוגים לבגדי הים המצויינים של אוברזון.                       י

כשפנו אלי לצלם את הקולקציה החדשה, קולקציה 15/6 של גדעון אוברזון, חשבתי מה הכי נכון לעשות עכשיו.
 היה ברור לי שהבגדים יהיו מושלמים, כי אני תמיד אומרת שהבגדים של גדעון אוברזון מעצבים את האישיות של הלובשת אותם (ועשויים לעילא).                           י
אבל איפה לצלם ובאיזה תאורה להשתמש?                                 י
  הצעתי לצלם אותם מאוד ישיר ופשוט, בבית הפרטי של גדעון ודינה אוברזון כי מניסיון אני יודעת שהבית שלהם תמיד יפה וגם שהוא לא אוהב לבוא לצילומים ובבית לא תהיה לו ברירה.
 והטאץ' שלו חשוב !                                  י

בבית התבייתתי על קיר צבוע באדום חזק והשתמשנו גם בחפצי האמנות הגדולים המפוזרים בדירה הגדולה.                                   י

לתאורה השתמשתי באור היום (אור חלון) היפה שבחלל הדירה והוספתי פלאש ישיר חלש מאוד, לחידוד.                                        י

Leather Dress and Metal Spiders

העבודה באור יום מתאפשרת בגלל הרגישות הגבוהה של המצלמות המודרניות. 
אני אוהבת מאוד להשתמש באיכויות האלה בגלל שהן מקנות לצילום עומק.                           י

מרים רוט, הדוגמנית האמזונית שבחרנו, הזכירה לי מאוד את האיכויות של הדוגמניות הקלאסיות של הלמוט ניוטון, כך שהבקשה שלי ממנה היתה כל הזמן - תסתכלי עלי חזק.
  ומרים באמת הסתכלה עלי חזק....                         י

והנקודה אולי הכי מעניינת מבחינה טכנית  - השתמשתי בעדשה 50 מ"מ אנלוגית (ז"א פוקוס ידני) עם מפתח צמצם 1.4 , כדי להשיג תחושה יותר מחוספסת , יותר עבודת יד ופחות פלסטי אטום. חשבתי שזה יתאים לצילומים האלה ולקולקציה הזו .
