My Favorite Lisbon Fashion Trend

Beyond the obvious beauty of Lisbon, I've read about two things that I find particularly interesting
About three hundred years ago, the city suffered a severe earthquake that destroyed most of it. The royal palace was completely destroyed, fires broke out throughout the city, houses and streets were swallowed up in the ground and a lot of terrified people fleeing when parallel acts of violence and looting took place throughout the city. The shock wave of the earth quake reached to the Netherlands and France and theories about the causes of the quake sprung up, in writings too. The main cause of course was a divine punishment for the terrible acts of violence carried out by the Portuguese Inquisition. Lisbon's earthquake was considered, then the worst natural disaster  that ever happened in Europe
I was surprised to see and hear the residents of the city, today, talk of the earthquake and mention it in a nonchalant, informative, dry manner. The earthquake which wiped  out Lisbon, to the foundation, in 1755. The city was built entirely anew
Another fact  that I read was about the slave trade to the bustling Portuguese Empire. A  lot of Africans were brought as slaves to Lisbon. Since the Portuguese empire had no racial laws, of any kind,  a lot of mixed children were born. And indeed it was beautiful and comforting to see people in the streets of Lisbon in all possible shades. Even those you'd think are white have a pinch of brown or olive color. The article I read also claims that there is no connection between today's Portuguese and the Portuguese centuries ago that were bold sailors, scholars, poets and rulers . And I say - maybe it's better this way ....

And a sharp transition - the subject of this post - fashion

Of course there are luxury stores in Lisbon of the best designers from all over the world-Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Celine and what you want. And talented Portuguese  designers and all the international high street brands, but what struck me and I liked most of all were the work gowns worn by women working in various jobs and myriad uniforms worn by the townspeople. Indeed, the role of designated shops and pebbles learn not absent, to my surprise, even the most luxurious streets of Lisbon.A phenomenon if I remember correctly ,I have never seen in any other metropolitan area in the world

מעבר ליופיה הגלוי לעין של ליסבון , קראתי עליה שתי עובדות מעניינות במיוחד. 

לפני כשלוש מאות שנה סבלה העיר מרעידת אדמה קשה שהחריבה את רובה. ארמון המלך נהרס כולו, שריפות פרצו בכל העיר, בתים ורחובות נבלעו באדמה והמון אדם מוכה אימה נס על נפשו כשבמקביל מעשי אלימות וביזה התחוללו בכל העיר. הדי הרעש הגיעו עד להולנד ולצרפת ותיאוריות לגבי הסיבות לרעש הנורא צצו, גם בכתובים. בראש הסיבות עמד כמובן עונש אלוהי על מעשי האלימות הנוראיים שביצעה האינקוויזיציה הפורטוגזית. רעידת האדמה בליסבון נחשבה, אז לאסון הטבע הנורא ביותר שקרה באירופה, אי פעם. 

התפלאתי לראות ולשמוע את תושבי העיר, היום, מזכירים את רעידת האדמה איזכור נונשלנטי, אינפורמטיבי, יבש. רעידת האדמה שמחקה את ליסבון, עד יסוד, ב 1755. העיר נבנתה כולה מחדש.               י  

עובדה נוספת עליה קראתי היא כי סחר העבדים השוקק של האימפריה הפורטוגזית הגדולה והחזקה הביא לליסבון הרבה אפריקאים כעבדים. מאחר ובאימפריה הפורטוגזית לא היו חוקי גזע, מכל סוג שהוא, נולדו הרבה מאוד ילדים מעורבים. ואכן יפה ואף מנחם, לראות ברחובות ליסבון אנשים בכל הגוונים האפשריים. אפילו למי שנדמה כלבן יש קמצוץ צבע זית או חום. כותב המאמר מוסיף וטוען כי אין כל קשר בין הפורטוגזים של היום לבין הפורטוגזים לפני כמה מאות שנים שהיו ימאים, חוקרים, משוררים ושליטים נועזים. ואני אומרת - אולי עדיף ככה ....                   י

ובמעבר חד - לנושא הפוסט הזה -בגדים

כמובן שיש בליסבון חנויות מפוארות של טובי המעצבים מכל העולם- ראלף לורן, גוצ'י, סלין ומה שתרצו. וגם מעצבים פורטוגזים מקוריים וכישרוניים וגם חנויות של כל הרשתות הבינלאומיות בכל רובעי העיר. אבל מה שבלט לעיני ומצא חן בעיני יותר מכל היו חלוקי העבודה שלובשות הנשים העובדות בעבודות שונות והמדים הרבים והמגוונים שלובשים תושבי העיר. ואכן מקומם של החנויות המיועדות למדים וחלוקים לא נפקד, להפתעתי, גם מהרחובות המפוארים ביותר בליסבון. תופעה, שאם אני זוכרת נכון, לא ראיתי מעולם באף מטרופולין אחרת בעולם.

Ms. Miuccia Prada, though not only in Lisbon, usually thinks like me (we have telepathy) and has equipped  the employees of her stores all over the world with a classic uniform, a variation on work clothes.
Lovely Patrizia in the photograph is not so happy because she is always too hot in the uniform but she says that all the other girls who work in the Prada shop in Lisbon's main avenue, Avenida Libertade, just love it. The men in the  store have a uniform too,  a solid grey suit with tie, as uncomfortable for them as well

הגברת מיוצ'יה פראדה , אמנם לא רק בליסבון, בד״כ חושבת כמוני ( יש לנו טלפתיה) והיא ציידה החורף את כל המוכרות בחנויותיה הרבות ברחבי העולם במדים קלסיים, וריאציה על בגדי עבודה. 

פטריציה החמודה שבצילום לא כ״כ מרוצה כי תמיד חם לה מדי אבל לדבריה כל הבנות האחרות שעובדות בחנות של פראדה בשדרה הראשית של ליסבון, אבנידה ליברטדה, מאוד אוהבות. לגברים שבחנות יש חליפה אפורה סולידית עם עניבה ( שחונקת מספיק שלא תהיה אפליה).

Pastéis de Belém - bakery and coffee shop ,mythological. Both beautiful and delicious. Abu Hassan style place in terms of popularity, but special cakes. Read his story of Pasteis de Belem here
