One of the most exciting things that happened in Tel Aviv in the last
decade, and certainly from the fashionable aspect, is the arrival of refugees
and asylum seekers from Africa.
The refugees add a lot of color and authentic cultural diversity to the Tel Aviv street. In these fashion shots we took inspiration from the churches in south Tel Aviv. Thecostumes of Nigerians and Sudanese, I see, going to the makeshift churches in the weekends.
In
formal suits, combinations of fabrics and prints, African heritage
manifested in prints, materials and turbans. And black culture in general - dreadlocks,
hip hop, gangsta, and more.
Emmanuel Lam, the handsome model in these photographs, came to Israel along a tortuous
route, nine years ago, from South Sudan, with his mother and two
sisters.
Emmanuel was very enthusiastic about the turban and kilt. It reminds him of his village and tribe in South Sudan.
The turban
is like a crown that women and men from his tribe wear and little children
wear cloth wrap like skirts when they play.
He is very proud of his heritage, but with strong and complex opinions about Africa, Refugees, West and so on.

עמנואל לאם, הדוגמן יפה התואר שבצילומים, הגיע לישראל בדרך חתחתים, לפני תשע שנים, מדרום סודאן, עם אמו ושתי אחיותיו. י
עמנואל התלהב מאוד מהטורבן והחצאית. זה
מזכיר לו הכפר ואת השבט שלו באפריקה. י
הטורבן הוא כמו כתר שגם נשים וגם
גברים מהשבט שלו עונדים והילדים הקטנים כורכים בד בצורה כזו כחצאית כשהם
משחקים. י
הוא מאוד גאה במורשת שלו, אבל עם דעות מוצקות ומורכבות בנושא אפריקה, פליטים, המערב וכו׳. י
