Immigrants מהגרים

A year ago, I went to eat falafel on Jerusalem Boulevard and noticed that on the outside wall of the falafel boutique (very tasty to mention) there is a beautiful wall painting.

I have no idea who the unknown artist is, but the painting reminded me of backgrounds that European photographers used to put in the studio for family photographs, like the photos of my family in the old album.

The painting also reminded me of the backgrounds of the Eritrean photographers at the old central bus station in Tel Aviv, planting behind the wedding photographs of the festive participants, who send it home, to the families who remained behind in Eritrea.

The painting also reminded me of murals I saw on a visit to Hebron, in a Palestinian house a year ago, laid out on a wall in the living room.

In short - I was really excited

I told Oren Dar, the stylist I love to work with about the wall, and we went to see it together.

We decided that we would shoot against the background of the wall, with all the connotations I mentioned above, fashion photographs that take inspiration from immigrants.

Migrant workers, asylum seekers, political immigrants, people looking for a better future and carrying all their property with them.

It was summer, it was too hot to take pictures outdoors. We waited for autumn. But I passed by and suddenly saw the corner covered with billboards for the municipal elections.

I informed Oren that we had to look for a new place. But by then time Oren was more excited about the location than me and convinced me not to give up. According to the signs, you understand that the place serves as a branch of the Likud. In short, I made a series of phone calls which ended up with the manager of the branch and he not only agreed that we would take pictures and take down the signs (it was already after the elections of course), but also gave us the keys of the place so that we could organize ourselves (makeup, styling, etc.). Chapeau !

We decided to photograph a variety of characters, from different origins. True, every continent has a different story, but in the end everyone meets.

I shot using daylight. This wall is also located just like a photography studio in Europe, so that the wall faces north and is all day in the shade, in the winter. As if we had planned it in particular.

We brought a carpet and we had a perfect studio.

אין לי מושג מי הצייר האלמוני אבל הציור הזכיר לי רקעים שצלמים אירופאים נהגו לשים בסטודיו לצילומי משפחות, כמו הצילומים של המשפחה שלי באלבום הישן

הציור הזכיר לי גם את הרקעים שהצלמים האריתראים בתחנה המרכזית הישנה בתל אביב, משתילים מאחורי צילומי החתונה של המצטלמים החגיגיים

הציור הזכיר לי גם ציורי קיר שראיתי בביקור בחברון, בבית פלסטיני לפני שנה, פרוס על קיר שלם בסלון

סיפרתי לאורן דר, הסטייליסט שאני מרבה ואוהבת לעבוד איתו על הקיר, והלכנו ביחד לראות אותו

החלטנו שנצלם על רקע הקיר, עם כל המטענים שהזכרתי כאן, צילומי אופנה שלוקחים את ההשראה ממהגרים

מהגרי עבודה,מבקשי מקלט, מהגרים פוליטיים, אנשים שמחפשים עתיד טוב יותר ונושאים על עצמם את כל רכושם

היה קיץ, היה חם מדי לצלם במקום. חיכינו לסתיו. אבל עברתי במקום ופתאום ראיתי את הפינה מכוסה בשלטי בחירות (עירוניות)

הודעתי לאורן שאנחנו צריכים לחפש מקום חדש. אבל בנתיים אורן נדלק עוד יותר ממני ושכנע אותי לא לוותר. לפי השלטים אתם מבינים שהמקום משמש כסניף של הליכוד. בקיצור עשיתי סדרה של טלפונים שבסופה הגעתי למנהל הסניף והוא לא רק שהסכים שנצלם במקום ונוריד את השלטים (זה כבר היה אחרי הבחירות כמובן), אלא גם נתן לנו את המפתחות של הסניף כדי שנוכל להתארגן בפנים (איפור, סטיילינג וכו׳). ש א פ ו י
