Beauty in Jaffa - a mix of cultural architectural and fashion elements

 

We chose to photograph one of our latest fashion editorials for Laisha magazine, in this

 beautiful 19th century house in Jaffa, that was redecorated by the talented

architect  Meital Mayorchik Sarid 

 Perfect warm location for our orange fashion items.

יצאנו לדרך לצלם כתבת אופנה לשבועון ״לאשה״, כתבה שתהיה גם הצעה לטיול בנוסף לאופנה

היה ברור לנו שנצלם בים, על שפת הים. הרי יוני, תחילת הקיץ. חם מאוד ויהיה עוד יותר חם

הצעתי לעמית מכטינגר, הדוגמנית הנהדרת שבחרנו, טיול על חוף נחשולים וצפונה                                

״את מכירה את החוף בג׳סר א-זרקא ?״ שאלה עמית

 כן, את מעדיפה את ג׳סר ? יאללה

נסעתי לעשות סיור מקדים בג׳סר א-זרקא. כבר צילמתי שם, אבל תמיד טוב לבדוק

הישוב עצמו היה שומם למדי. אולי זה היה הרמאדן שהדגיש זאת אבל חוץ מאכסניה חמודה, מינימרקט ובית ספר, הכל נראה שומם ויבש

מצאתי בכל זאת כמה נקודות צבע, אבל לא יותר מדי

שפת הים נראתה הרבה יותר מבטיחה

למען האמת - מבטיחה מאוד. גולת הכותרת היתה בית הקפה שנפתח על החוף ובעליו הבטיח לי שהוא פתוח כל יום

מה שאומר שיהיה לנו קפה ואולי אפילו אוכל

וחוץ מהשיקולים המעשיים האלה החוף יפה להפליא וציורי בסגנון שממש נדיר בישראל 

אם כי ,חשוב לציין, לא מתאים לכל טעם. קצת זרוק, קצת מוזנח, למרות שעובדים על זה במרץ

יצאנו מתל אביב מוקדם ופגשנו את עמית שהגיעה מהמושב שלה, בכניסה לכביש המוביל לג׳סר

התמקמנו בבית הקפה שהיה פתוח כמו שהובטח ובילינו שם עד סוף היום

צילמתי בהתאם לתנועת השמש, עם אור יום בלבד ורפלקטור מדי פעם
 ניסינו להשאר בצל. גם בגלל החום ובעיקר כדי שלא יווצרו צללים על הפנים היפות של עמית

 אבל לפעמים הצללים עושים דווקא צורות יפות, ואפשר לחיות איתם בשלום

הדייגים היו מאוד קואופרטיביים והצטלמו בשמחה. גם החתול הג׳ינג׳י חיכה לי בסבלנות

כשהשמש התחילה להנמיך יצאנו לים

והצטרפנו לילדי ג׳סר שבאים לשחות בלגונות הקטנות בין הסלעים על החוף

We set off to shoot a fashion editorial for Laisha magazine, that  would be a proposal for a road trip in addition to fashion.

It was clear to us that we would shoot at sea, on the seashore. It was June, early summer. It is very hot and will be even hotter once it's published.

I suggested to Amit Machtinger, the wonderful model we had chosen, a trip on Nachsholim and further north along the beach.

"Do you know the beach at Jisr al-Zarqa?" Amit asked

 Yes, you prefer Jisr? Let's go there.

I went to make a preliminary tour of Jisr al-Zarqa. I've already worked there, but it's always good to check.

The small town itself was quite deserted. Perhaps it was the Ramadan that emphasized it but apart from a lovely inn, a mini-market and a school, everything seemed desolate and dry.

I did find some color points, but not too much. 

The seashore seemed much more promising.

As a matter of fact - very promising. The highlight was the cafe that opened on the beach and its owner assured me that it was open every day.

Which means we'll have coffee and maybe even food.

Apart from these practical considerations, the beach is wonderfully beautiful and picturesque in a style that is rare in Israel.
But it's important to note that it is not suitable for every taste. A little dumped, a bit neglected, although they work on it vigorously.

We left Tel Aviv early and met Amit who came from her Moshav at the entrance to the road leading to Jisr.


We settled in the cafe that was open as promised and stayed there for the rest of the day as our base for the photo shoot.

 I photographed according to the movement of the sun, with only daylight and a reflector from time to time.

 We tried to stay in the shade. Partly because of the heat, and especially so that there would not be shadows on Amit's beautiful face.

 But some shadows make beautiful shapes, and you can live with them in peace.


The fishermen were very cooperative and let us photograph them gracefully. The ginger cat was waiting patiently for me too.


As the sun began to lower, we went out to the sea.



And joined the children of Jisr who come to swim in the little lagoons among the rocks on the beach.

Behind the Scenes with Yaara

Telling the story of telling a story…

Shooting on location is always nice . Being outdoors , fresh air ,lovely sights , but also much more complicated . Wind ,sand ,water ,having to walk ,having to carry.. so there .
Here are a few insights into a new shoot :

The wind made our beautiful model , Yaara ,cry ...

Working on location demands , often , being  very flexible . Changing outdoors...

Concentrating . There are people around..

השבוע לב התחיל ללכת למעון של ויצו בתל -אביב וזו התרגשות גדולה לכל בני המשפחה .מאיה ואיל נשארים עם לב בבוקר ,פעם היא ופעם הוא .

 I have recently  encountered the blog of Julia Roitfeld about mothers and babies

 http://romyandthebunnies.com/And I've been thinking that once mothers were not so glamorous and now it is almost

a Must !

 So I decided to do a series of photographs of chic mothers ***The first very chic mother is Maja Martin , digital Marketing manager at a design firm, and partner of Eyal de Leeuw 's external relations director of the Design Museum Holon ,and their son Lev.Maja maintains cool in 100% Tel Aviv humidity :)She believes that you should put limits to children but sometimes releases completely .
Last week Lev started going to the kindergarten and this is a big excitement to the new family .

 Maja and Eyal keep turns ,so each day one of them stays in the morning to see that Lev is happy .
